BEDWAS’ first venture into the British and Irish Cup won’t be a campaign that is long celebrated at Bridge Field but they can at least finish with a bang at Bedford tomorrow.

Steve Law’s side are doing marvellously in the Premiership, which they lead by eight points, but the cross-border competition hasn’t gone quite so well.

They have notched just one victory, albeit a memorable one away at Stirling, and prop up Pool Two.

It is a competition that has tested Bedwas’ slim squad to the limit and it doesn’t get any easier for them.

Tomorrow they take on the Blues, who sit third in the English Championship, at Goldington Road where they are yet to be denied victory this season.

A first away win at Bedford is a big ask for Bedwas and in truth keeping the score down and avoiding injury look to be prime concerns.

But Law and his coaches will be looking for several fringe players to impress ahead of next weekend’s home Swalec Cup clash with Llandovery and the crunch Premiership clashes on the horizon.

The club are also buoyed by six Dragons Academy players that have represented them this season – hooker Elliot Dee, back row James Benjamin, scrum-half Josh Davies, fly-half Ethan Davies, centre Jack Dixon and full-back Hallam Amos will be representing – being named in the Wales under-20s squad for the Six Nations.
