BEDWAS head coach Steve Law knows their mental approach will be key when they come up against the students of Cardiff Met in the Swalec Cup, writes Chris Kirwan.

The men from Bridge Field, sixth in the Principality Premiership, host a side that are seventh in the Swalec Championship.

Bedwas thumped Pontypool, who beat Cardiff Met in Cyncoed last weekend, 46-10 in round one but Law has warned his charges not to be complacent.

"It's the top two inches that matters in this game, if you go in with the wrong attitude and take victory for granted then you will come unstuck," said Law.

"We don't know a great deal about them in terms of personnel but they will be conditioned well and they will be organised because I know Chris Davey well and his is a wise owl and an excellent coach.

"You'd like to think that our ability and power should be enough but it's all about the mental attitude to achieve the standard required."

Bedwas head into the clash on the back of a 51-14 home humbling at the hands of Premiership leaders Pontypridd.

They certainly aren't the first side to be put to the sword by the champions but the manner of the defeat has disappointed Law.

"We are looking for a reaction and will change the side on merit, not because it's a Championship side that we are up against," he said.

"You've got to give Ponty credit because they were excellent. Their contact area work was superb, they created opportunities and they were accurate.

"They were a very, very good side and I can accept losing because they were far better than us, but not conceding 51 points.

"Some of the tries were unacceptable and the boys that didn't perform will find themselves not playing this weekend."
