BEDWAS hope to keep their impressive try-scoring form going when they host Bridgend in the Principality Premiership on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2.30pm), writes Chris Kirwan.

The Bridge Field side crossed the whitewash six times against Newport at Rodney Parade last weekend in a 42-14 win that keeps them in the mix for the playoffs.

That took their league try tally to 48 in 17 games, already higher than last season's 47 and with five fixtures remaining they are likely to enjoy their best attacking campaign in the semi-professional era.

"We're scoring more tries and that's possibly because we are trying to play more off the third pass, which is harder to defend against, but it's also because we have been more accurate whether in the first minute or the last," said head coach Steve Law.

Bedwas are still fighting on two fronts as not only do they head to Cross Keys in the quarter-finals of the Swalec Cup but they are just five points back on their third-placed Gwent rivals.

If they are to remain in the mix for the playoffs then they must not slip against a Bridgend side that are at the other end of the table.

But Law is not taking the Ravens lightly as they have won four of their last six and are the only side to have beaten leaders Pontypridd in the league.

"You have to play to your best against everybody in the Premiership," said Law. "But if we put in a performance, and execute the game plan of territory and multi-phase rugby, then I will be disappointed if we don't have enough to come away with the win."

Bedwas have no fresh injuries after their derby win at Rodney Parade and will keep changes to a minimum.
