NEWBRIDGE showed signs of their progress only to suffer late heartbreak as Swansea kept alive their faint Swalec Championship title hopes with a win at the Welfare Ground.

The Whites won a nip and tuck encounter 20-18 thanks to a late score by Will Lewis and Jac Wilson’s touchline conversion.

Tenth-placed Bridge’ have been in superb form since Christmas, climbing off bottom thanks to seven wins from eight games, and they scented a notable victory thanks to tries by centre Rhys Humphries and wing Duane Dyer plus 10 points from the boot of fly-half Simon Veal.

However, they were pipped at the death and had to settle for a losing bonus point while second-placed Swansea are 11 points back on Bargoed, who have a game in hand and look certain to take the title.
