HEAD coach Jason Strange hailed Ebbw Vale's crushing win over Bridgend as a "job well done" and hopes the success will prompt a winning streak as the race for the Principality Premiership playoffs hots up.

The Steelmen romped to a 45-3 win against the struggling Ravens at Eugene Cross Park on Wednesday night to strengthen their position in second.

They crossed for seven tries against Bridgend with their driving lineout leading to scores for flanker Ronny Kynes (2), loosehead prop Ross Jones and a penalty try while lock Ashley Sweet, centre Adam Jones and back row Gareth Williams also crossed the whitewash.

It was a much-needed win after defeats to Cross Keys, Aberavon and Pontypridd but Ebbw still have very little margin for error in the five-way tussle for the two spots behind runaway leaders Pontypridd.

Ebbw are next in action when they host Bedwas on April 4 before a trio of tricky away fixtures at Llandovery, Llanelli and Cardiff.

"I was pleased that we responded the way that we did after a couple of disappointing results," said Strange, who will be part of the Wales Under-20s coaching team in Italy this evening (FRI).

"I never question the ability of commitment of our squad. We played some good rugby in parts and to score 45 points against a Bridgend side that have had some good results of late was really pleasing.

"We got a lot of players back and it showed. It was good to have Ashley Sweet back, he was impressive in the second row, and we had a bit more control throughout the side.

"We picked up a bonus point and need to now get our momentum back and go on a winning run. The result was all important and it was a job done well."
