BEDWAS club captain Richard Powell couldn’t be happier with how the Bridge Field outfit’s season is going – he just wants to regain his place in the team to enjoy it even more.

A dead leg kept fly-half Powell out of the handsome defeat of Swansea last weekend when James Dixon took possession of the number 10 jersey.

Dixon starts again on Saturday as Bedwas host Carmarthen Quins (kick-off noon), with Powell among the replacements for the Principality Premiership encounter.

Newport Gwent Dragons duo James Thomas and Darran Harris come into head coach Steve Law’s side at flanker and hooker respectively.

Geraint Edmunds and Rhys Verley return to make up the second row, while centre Mike Callow and winger Pat Lewis are back in the starting XV after seeing action in the British & Irish Cup.

Reflecting on his side’s five wins from seven league fixtures to date, Powell said: “I’m over the moon.

“I didn’t expect us to be doing so well but the boys have done a cracking job and hopefully we can keep it going.

“We’ve got quite a tight-knit group of guys and the boys that have come in this season have strengthened the squad massively.

“I think we try to develop our game from week to week and our set-piece has been pretty good.

“Steve Law plays a massive part in it. He is a good bloke and people look up to him.”

He added: “I’m club captain but I’ve been injured for the last two weeks with a dead leg.

“It’s frustrating because no-one wants to be injured, especially when things are going so well.”

Powell believes Quins are “going to be gunning for us” following their narrow loss to Cardiff last time out, and the visitors have brought Scarlets pair Morgan Allen and Nicky Thomas into their pack.
