EBBW Vale, Bedwas, Cross Keys and Pontypool are all going to be part of S4C’s Christmas and New Year schedule, the broadcaster has announced.

The Welsh-language channel will show Ebbw’s trip to Bridge Field on Boxing Day (kick-off 4.45pm), as the Steelmen and hosts Bedwas go toe-to-toe.

Both sides are looking to finish in the top eight come the Principality Premiership’s mid-January split, with five points currently separating fifth-placed Bedwas and ninth-placed Ebbw.

The S4C cameras then travel to Sardis Road for a New Year’s Eve clash between Pontypridd and Cross Keys (kick-off 3pm).

While Pontypridd look set for a top-eight finish, Keys are seven points off the last spot, which is occupied by Cardiff.

The choice of televised match for Saturday, January 7 will be made after Christmas, however, Pontypool’s Welsh Cup first round tie at Llanelli on January 28 is to be shown live.

WRU head of rugby performance, Geraint John, said: “The interest in the Principality Premiership has clearly increased this season with very competitive matches and with the added incentive for clubs of trying to get into tier one.

“We are working closely with the Premiership clubs to provide coaching support and we can look forward to an exciting climax of this first part of the season – S4C’s coverage will play a big part in that.”
