CROSS Keys chief Greg Woods is adamant there will be no repeat of last month’s capitulation at the Gnoll when his troops tackle Neath again on Sunday (kick-off 2.30pm).

Keys were on the wrong end of a 59-14 hiding when they travelled to the home of the Welsh All Blacks on April 8, conceding eight tries in the process.

They were then thrashed 33-10 by Cardiff at Pandy Park before making sure of their place in the Principality Premiership tier two play-offs with a bonus-point win over Newport.

In head-to-heads this season, Keys have actually beaten Gareth Llewellyn’s Neath twice in the three meetings to date.

They hammered them 48-3 at home back in September and then eased to a 29-10 success, also at Pandy Park, in the second round of the National Cup in February.

And Woods is hoping for a third victory in four encounters when the teams battle for a place in the tier two play-off final this weekend.

“We were terrible when we played down there last month and we know we’ve got to be a lot better this time around,” said Woods.

“We were shocking that day for lots of reasons but I don’t think people have given Neath enough credit for the way they played.

“I think this weekend’s fixture is a good one for us because it gives us a chance to lay some ghosts to rest and put in a performance for the fans.

“We’re in the play-offs now and we’re going for it.”

He added: “It was pleasing to get a fantastic win at Newport in our last match, and to do the double over them this season.

“We’ve spent the past year trying to bring people into the side and get youngsters playing so it was great to see it all come together.

“After the Cardiff game we needed a performance like that.”

Woods confirmed that Darren Hughes will continue at blindside flanker after switching to the back row for the Newport match, with Rob Jones keeping the number two jersey.

Neath’s Alec Jenkins misses Sunday’s game with a broken leg.
