SELF-CONFESSED sore loser Ty Morris is desperate for Newport to get off the mark in the Principality Premiership tomorrow afternoon but the forwards coach knows that the Black and Ambers are learning on the job.

Newport travel to Bedwas on the back of a 31-19 loss to old foes Cardiff at Rodney Parade.

It promises to be a challenging season for the club on and off the pitch following the sale of their historic ground to the Welsh Rugby Union but forwards coach Morris wants the squad to learn fast.

He said: “It’s a bit of a transitional period for Newport and we have lost plenty of players with Premiership experience in the likes of Rhodri Jones, Craig Attwell, Dan Mock, Brendan Lampitt.

“It’s a bit of a fresh start, we are looking to develop boys and feel it’s going well but we have to be patient and expect them to make errors.

“We have to be outcome-based and all that we can ask is that they improve week on week.

“We turned too much ball over against Cardiff but were quite happy with other aspects, for example Morgan Burgess was superb in his first Premiership game, and want to see more this week.

“I’m a very sore loser and try to win every game. That attitude will never change but we know that we are lacking in experience at the moment.”

Newport are set to prosper from some Premiership knowhow in the form of half-back Ryan James and utility back Geraint O’Driscoll.

They also hope to field teenage flanker Lennon Greggains after he played for the Dragons against Glasgow last weekend.

Bedwas are looking to back up last weekend’s stunning 39-27 victory at Pontypridd.

“It was a fantastic performance and they have recruited really well,” said Morris.

“I know [head coach] Steve Law left for Cardiff but I expect them to be challenging again this season and it’s going to be a big test.”
