Nelson 40's opened up their league campaign with a thumping 9-0 win against a battling Pontypool side.

The writing was on the wall from the very start when Pontypool scored an own goal in the first minute from a Ray Fussell corner and from that point the confidence flowed through Nelson.

The visitor's defence was constantly under pressure and good play from the Nelson midfield ensured chances came thick and fast. Dean Morris added a second and Jones a third before the break to make it 3-0 at half time.

On a hot sunny day the energy drained quickly from Pontypool in the second half. Nelson continued as they did in the first half and created numerous chances, scoring a further six times to make it a resounding 9-0 win.

A great start to the season for the team, but it is highly unlikely future games will be as dominant. Next game in a fortnight away to Cardiff Corries
