BLACKWOOD Town Cricket Club is looking forward to the upcoming season as the opening fixture approaches.
The club, who play at The Highfields Ground at the top of Gordon Road near the town centre, has two teams that play every Saturday, with the first team playing in Division One of the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League and the second team in Division Two of the same league.
As a Cricket Youth Centre of Excellence, the club also runs youth teams at under 11, under 13 and under 15 level.
The club is looking forward to a prosperous season across all ages, and will this season introduce an under nine side for the first time.
Joe Woodland, the club’s under 11s coach and a second team player, said the introduction of a new age group will ensure the “club continues with our reputation for youth cricket development in the Caerphilly area”.
He added: “Ahead of the new season, we have recruited some brilliant new players that will bring real quality to the squad including the return of Will Ford from Abergavenny. Our 2013 player of the year Dan Wilkinson has also signed on to become our player-coach - which brings a huge lift to the squad.
“Ninety-eight per cent of our squad are players that have been brought through Blackwood's youth system - the club is very proud of this.”
