NEWPORT County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh is targeting a win over Wycombe Wanderers today before he can concentrate on planning for next season.

Edinburgh has already stated that he will be busy in the summer with a major overhaul of the playing squad following the downturn in results since Christmas.

But he knows that his side need three more points to put the threat of relegation to bed and a win over the third from bottom Chairboys this afternoon (kick-off 3.07pm) would do nicely.

“There’s no doubt that we need to get back to winning ways at home,” said Edinburgh.

“We’ve had some good results on the road but at home we’ve stuttered and we’ve got three home games left now as we aim to end the season on a high.

“I think if we’re going to be in this league next year we need three more points and there would be no better time to do it than in this game.”

The Exiles boss is promising to make changes to his starting XI today and admits his squad needs major surgery come the end of the season.

“We need to show more quality than we have in recent weeks, offensively and defensively,” he said.

“We’ve got some players chomping at the bit to get back in and we’ll freshen things up a bit.

“As for the summer the ones that take on board what I’m telling them will be here and the ones that don’t will be leaving the club.

“The group has been together for three years some of them and there have been some good times but at any workplace sometimes you can be there too long.

“Sometimes the voice of the leader doesn’t always seem to motivate so the whole squad needs a freshen-up and a re-evaluation in the summer.

“As a manager you search for a successful group and I had that last year so I think it was the right thing to do to keep them together.

“Certain players have continued to develop and improve, some have stalled and some have come up short but that’s about individuals stepping up to a higher level and it’s a learning curve for me as a manager as well.

He added: “My immediate focus is on the next five games. We’ve got fifteen points to play for and we want to get as many as possible.

“But work is in progress about planning for next season.”
