NEWPORT County manager Justin Edinburgh and director Howard Greenhaf hailed the team effort that enabled the Exiles to add a striker to their ranks.

County yesterday announced the loan capture of Joe Pigott from Charlton Athletic until the end of December to deputise for the injured Rene Howe.

The 20-year old signs despite the Exiles previously stating they were at their wage limit imposed by Football League financial regulations and would need to move players out before they could add to their ranks.

However, that situation changed thanks to a meeting between Greenhaf and representatives from TEN different individual fundraising arms associated with the Exiles in which it was agreed that all the relevant parties would come together to bridge the gap in the squad created by Rene Howe’s serious injury.

Greenhaf commented: “This signing is only possible because of the goodwill of our supporters and the fact all the different groups were prepared to meet together to discuss what was best for the club at this present time.

“And the result is Justin getting a player he really wanted, which is good news for everyone.”

Edinburgh was thrilled to boost his firepower, commenting: “we couldn't have done this signing without the help of the Supporters Partnership. We looked at Joe last year but unfortunately he went on loan to Gillingham, Joe is an exciting prospect and with Rene being out until gone Christmas time he will add to this area of the team.

“This is a club where the supporters always do everything they can for you and I’d like to express my gratitude to them.”

The 20-year old Charlton striker goes straight into the squad for Saturday’s clash with Northampton Town and boss Edinburgh is looking for a similar performance to the one in midweek against Cambridge.

“We’ve watched it back and there isn’t too much we need to improve, other than being more clinical in the box,” he concluded.
