NEWPORT County AFC have confirmed the signing of Swansea City striker James Loveridge on a one-month loan deal, subject to clearance with the Football League, but manager Justin Edinburgh has ruled out another move for Darcy Blake.

Wales under-19 international Loveridge has yet to make a competitive appearance for Premier League Swansea but did play seven games on loan at League One MK Dons last season.

County say the deal is not yet signed and sealed but the 20-year-old should be available for Saturday's game at Oxford United.

A statement from the club reads: "Newport County AFC can confirm that Swansea City's James Loveridge has signed on a one month loan deal, subject to clearance with the Football League."

He will be the second Swansea player to join County on loan in the past week following defender Scott Tancock's arrival at Rodney Parade last Friday.

Manager Justin Edinburgh also revealed today that 16-year-old centre-back Regan Poole, who was replaced by Tancock for the win over AFC Wimbledon last Saturday, has been on trial at Championship club Fulham this week.

"Regan has been at Fulham this week," said the Exiles boss. "We were asked by Fulham if they could take Regan into their environment to have a look at him which, with it being a free week this week we allowed to happen.

"So he has been down there since Monday and from the reports that we have had back they have been absolutely delighted with him and he finishes his weeks trial with them on Friday and we’ll discuss from there what goes on."

Poole is in demand but Edinburgh says there have been no firm offers for the young defender and he is hopeful of keeping him at Rodney Parade for the time being.

"Manchester United have contacted the club and asked if he could go back there for another week," he said.

"I think a player of that quality having seen him in just the short space of time in the two first team games, there is no doubt that there is going to be a lot of interest.

"We have to manage him right which is certainly my duty as a manager to do that but he’ll be back in the squad on Saturday and we’ll see where we go from there.

"We haven’t had any firm offers from anyone but that is the reason for him going to Fulham because they wanted to see him.

"Everyone knows that every player has got a price but I think what we have done is right by the player and the club first and foremost.

"They’re the two priorities for us. Being a father myself I think it was the right thing for the boy to be allowed to go and look at the clubs.

"Manchester United being the biggest club probably in the world and Fulham have a youth department that is second to none right now. So I thought it was good for him.

"In terms of him trialing and going here there and everywhere we’re not trying to broker him out or anything I just thought that those two opportunities were good and right for him.

"I have to look after him and that is my main priority. I contemplated playing him last week against Wimbledon but I didn’t feel it would be the right thing to play three senior competitive games in the space of a week at that age.

"I think that would have been far too much and that was a big decision in us bringing Scott in. All Regan wants to do is play football and that’s is great for me.

"I am hopeful of keeping him for the near future at least," he added. "We’ve not put him out there to sell him, he’s out there to pitch himself against better players and I think it is right for him and his parents. We’re not doing it to generate an auction for him, I just felt that it was right for the player himself."

But with Poole's emergence, the arrival of Tancock and the return to fitness of Ismail Yakubu and Kevin Feely, Edinburgh says there is no room for Blake.

The former Wales international turned down a new contract following his brief stay at Rodney Parade last season and played in the amateur North Gwent League last weekend.

“I feel he is still capable and I suppose if you love football then you’ll play anywhere and credit to him for continuing to play,” said Edinburgh of Blake’s appearance for Tredegar Arms FC.

“Right now there is no interest from us. We’re blessed with defenders here right now with Ismail coming back into the fray on Saturday and putting in an accomplished performance.

“Kevin Feely is returning now and obviously with Scott Tancock joining on loan and the emergence of Regan Poole we’re good for that area.

“Also Andrew Hughes, who was far and away the best defender at the club when we were on this good run, finishes his suspension on Saturday so there is no room at the inn for the minute.”

Midfielder Lee Minshull is doubtful for the trip to the Kassam Stadium, while Ryan Jackson and Mike Flynn are still sidelined.
