NEWPORT County boss Justin Edinburgh is hoping to draw a line in the sand after criticising supporters for complaining about the Exiles’ 1-0 reverse at Oxford United.

County bounced back with three points on Saturday as they came from a goal behind to beat York City 3-1 at Rodney Parade to move up to 13th in League Two.

And after delighting the Amber Army with another impressive display, Edinburgh is hopeful everyone can move forward together after he branded the game as “ludicrous,” last week.

“I’ve been here three years and the crowd have been magnificent as they were on Saturday,” he said.

“It is a minority, one or two at Oxford who weren’t happy, but I know the vast, vast majority know what we are trying to achieve and see the progress we are making.”

Edinburgh confessed he had to dish out the famous Fergie hairdryer treatment at half time with County trailing the Minstermen, whose manager Nigel Worthington yesterday resigned.

“It was a relief to get the win, I couldn’t repeat what I said to the players at half time,” he commented.

“We had been on such a good run until obviously we lost at Oxford by just the one goal, but I felt we were a little bit flat on Saturday in the first half and let the players know what I thought.

“We had some words and I got the response I expected from the players because they set higher standards than they showed before the break and I was pleased for them that they got the rewards they deserved.

“I don’t want to make excuses but you know we’ve had problems leading up to the game with injuries and suspensions and notably Adam Chapman and Mark Byrne have been integral to what we’ve been doing.”

Edinburgh praised a trio of hometown heroes for the Exiles’ turnaround.

“Michael Flynn came on in the second half and slotted into the midfield for us and he was probably the change in the game,” he said.

“And Darren Jones won’t have scored many better goals, it was a fantastic strike and Andrew Hughes scored a fantastic goal for us as well after some really neat build-up play.

“We are up to 13th and we have lost only one in eight, we’ve improved and our home form is beginning to replicate that of last season after the hiccup against Wycombe on the opening day.

“We look really strong at home and powerful, the players are improving all the time and the group is coming together as well.

“The Swansea players have come in and bought into what we are trying to do here and that can only make us stronger, we are continuing to try and develop on and off the pitch.”
