NEWPORT County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh is targeting a second away win of the League Two season at Dagenham & Redbridge tomorrow.

Edinburgh’s men have won their last three home league games but have triumphed only once away from Rodney Parade so far this season.

That 1-0 victory at Portsmouth on August 30 was the last time County have scored away from home and followed defeats at Morecambe and Mansfield Town.

Since picking up three points at Fratton Park the Exiles have drawn 0-0 at Tranmere Rovers and Shrewsbury Town and lost 1-0 at Oxford United two weeks ago.

Today’s opponents, who finished ninth in 2013/14, have already lost at home to Morecambe, Northampton Town, Cambridge United and Exeter City, however.

And Edinburgh insists his side does have the cutting edge to beat the Daggers on their own patch.

“Dagenham is always a tough place to go,” said the Exiles boss. “They had a fantastic season last year and there is a lot of expectation on them.

“That’s what happens when you are successful. Finishing where they did last year was a fantastic effort and it would be difficult to replicate that.

“They’ve had an indifferent start but they got a good win last week at in-form Accrington, which they’ll be buoyed from.

“We had tough encounters with them last season and there is similar personnel so I expect a similar match,” he added.

“Top to bottom in this league anyone can beat anyone and if we don’t go there with the right attitude then anyone can come unstuck.

“But we’re on a good run ourselves and we’ll be looking to continue that.

“We’ll look to impose ourselves and go and do what we’ve been doing for the last eight or nine games.”

Edinburgh must make do without Robbie Willmott (foot) and Ryan Jackson (hamstring), while Danny Crow (ankle) and Rene Howe (thigh) are still sidelined and Adam Chapman (ankle) will be assessed tomorrow morning.

Mark Byrne and Andy Sandell return from suspension but goalkeeper Jamie Stephens has joined Gloucester City on loan, subject to international clearance, and 16-year-old defender Regan Poole misses the next three games while on duty for Wales under-17s.

“It’s fantastic for him and for everyone at the football club and it’s well deserved,” said Edinburgh of Poole’s call-up for the internationals in Belarus.

“I’m really pleased for him and it’s an honour to have a young star in the making representing his country at an early age.”
