NEWPORT County AFC were dumped out of the FA Cup after a thrilling first round tie at Kenilworth Road this afternoon.

Twice Justin Edinburgh’s men levelled in a pulsating encounter with League Two rivals Luton Town but two late goals from substitute Ricky Miller and Welshman Jake Howells saw the hosts through to round two.

The Hatters broke the deadlock five minutes before the break when Luke Guttridge fired into the the top left corner of Joe Day’s goal from 30 yards.

The Exiles were deservedly level on 51 minutes as Yan Klukowski smashed in a brilliant half volley before Luton edged ahead again on 58 minutes.

Mark Cullen’s shot was brilliantly saved by Day but Paul Benson scrambled in the rebound from cloise range.

Aaron O'Connor made it 2-2 with a bullet header from Curtis Obeng's cross on 64 minutes and the visitors sensed victory was there for the taking.

John Still’s promotion favourites had other ideas, however, and they sealed their place in the next round in the closeing stages.

Substitute Ricky Miller poked home from a Howells corner on 77 minutes and Howells scored a fine solo goal to finsih off the tie four minutes from the end.

Edinburgh said: "We're bitterly disappointed not to have got something out of the game in the end.

"We went behind from a poor decision, a blatant free-kick. A couple of key decisions have gone against us.

"We got back into the game, I thought we played really, really well at times.

"We'll put in a report, highlight those key incidents that we feel continuously went against us."
