NEWPORT County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh believes poor refereeing cost his side an FA Cup replay with Luton Town.

The Exiles boss was angry with referee Christopher Sarginson’s display, blaming the official for not spotting fouls on his players in the build-up to two of the hosts’ four goals.

Edinburgh argued that the Hatters’ first goal by Luke Guttridge and the third from Ricky Miller shouldn’t have stood.

“I felt that a couple of key decisions went against us today,” said Edinburgh, who won the FA Cup with Spurs back in 1991.

“Certainly the first goal should have been a free-kick to us for a foul on Minshull.

“Their third goal was a foul on Andrew Hughes as well but we can take a lot of positives.

“We got back into the game and played really well at times.

“We played a big part in a great game but I think the ref was probably a bit overawed by the crowd.

“We will put a report in on the ref and highlight those key incidents that we feel went against us.

“We very rarely get any conclusive feedback but we’ll have to do what we have to do.”

Guttridge and Yan Klukowski both scored spectacular goals either side of half-time before former Luton striker Aaron O’Connor cancelled out Paul Benson’s close range effort to make it 2-2.

But John Still’s men, who have won eight of their last 10 in the league, stormed into round two of the FA Cup at a rain-lashed Kenilworth Road thanks to late goals from substitute Miller and Welshman Jake Howells.
