NEWPORT County AFC saw chief executive Dave Boddy and striker Danny Crow leave the club today, but are confident they can keep hold of boss Justin Edinburgh.

The Exiles announced that they’ve come to terms on the release of Crow and have also agreed to part company with Boddy who leaves after two-years at the helm.

Boddy, the club’s first chief executive, is leaving at the end of his contract (January 31) to pursue a new business venture and Newport will be advertising for his successor in due course.

However, on a day of departures, director Howard Greenhaf made clear he expects his manager Edinburgh, linked with Gillingham, to remain at Rodney Parade.

“We have had no contact over Justin and we don’t envisage problems,” Greenhaf said.

“If Gillingham do approach us, we will have a chat with Justin, but I would imagine he’s got his eyes on a bigger club, higher in the pyramid than Gillingham.

“He’s operating as if it is business as usual and so are we.

“Justin has been brilliant for us and is still contracted at the club until the end of the 2016/17 season. We will always be open and honest with him, but it goes without saying we want him to stay.”

Greenhaf also paid tribute to Boddy.

“We thank Dave for two fantastic years,” he said. “With negotiations, applications, grants, sponsorship deals, he’s delivered for the club.

“He’s always given us 100% and he’s been great for us even if he wasn’t every fans’ cup of tea.

“He’s been a very important part of our success and we wish him well.”

Boddy, who released a statement on the County website, told the Argus he’s leaving a club he’s developed a real affinity for.

“It’s contractual, I joined mid-season and so leave mid-season (after two years) but I have loved my time with the club,” Boddy told Argus Sport.

“It’s been wonderful to be involved with Newport County at a time when we’ve had unprecedented successes on the field and it was a very tough decision to leave.

“The fact I live in Worcester was key, it’s not a long commute but I was spending more and more time in the car.

“I always felt I had a very good relationship with the fans. I know some of the things that were written, but I’ve had lots of kind words over my time here and met some great people.

“I will always be at the other end of the phone if anyone at County ever wanted any assistance with anything. I can’t say enough nice things about the staff and everyone I’ve encountered.”
