LOAN star Miles Storey is loving life at Newport County AFC and ready to extend his stay at Rodney Parade, writes Andrew Penman.

The Swindon Town forward shone in a wide midfield role as County won 2-1 at Wycombe Wanderers to kick start the League Two promotion push on Saturday.

And Storey says he’d love to stay on with the Exiles if the clubs can come to an arrangement.

“It’s been brilliant for me,” said the 21-year-old. “I’m enjoying myself and I’m loving playing in a good team.

“It’s up to Newport and Swindon but I’m really enjoying my time here so I’d welcome it if I could stay.”

Storey thanked Jimmy Dack for the confidence he has shown in him and says the players are all fully behind the Exiles caretaker boss.

“I’ve only been here a few weeks but I can see that the spirit is strong and everyone is backing Jimmy Dack as manager,” he said.

“You could see that at the end with the huddle after the game.

“It was a really tough game but a great win for us.

“I only trained for two or three days before Justin Edinburgh went to Gillingham but ever since I walked through the door Jimmy has been brilliant with me,” he added.

“He asked me to do a job on the right of midfield and I did that and he’s just given me a great sense of belief.

“I needed to play games and he’s backed me all the way so it’s been a breath of fresh air for me.

“I’m quick and I like to run with the ball so I’ll do a job on either wing.

“I just want to be playing football in a winning team with a great bunch of lads like this.”

Storey is certain that County can use Saturday’s win to push back up the League Two table after a poor run of results.

“To beat Wycombe, a team that has been near top all season, is a real scalp and hopefully we can build on that platform,” he said.

“Hopefully we’ve got over the little stumbling block and we need to keep getting points on the board and stay up in the promotion places.

“There is no game we go into where we don’t go for the win and we want to continue that.”
