NEWPORT County AFC have vowed to stand by striker Chris Zebroski.

The striker appeared in court this week charged with assault and attempted robbery and is also awaiting sentencing on a separate road rage charge.

The forward was County’s top scorer last season and the Argus readers’ Newport County player of the year.

The Exiles have now released two statements on Zebroski’s situation.

“Newport County AFC can confirm that officials of the club have met with striker Chris Zebroski regarding recent newspaper reports,” they wrote today.

“The club will be working closely with Chris and The PFA to provide support during this time.

“The club have concluded that today is not the time for a decision to be made on the player’s future at the club as the priority is the welfare and wellbeing of Chris.”

That followed an earlier statement issued on Wednesday evening when they wrote: “Newport County AFC are aware of reports in the local press/media regarding striker Chris Zebroski, the club are investigating the matter at present and only upon the completion of this investigation will the club make comment.”

Zebroski couldn’t have featured in the Exiles’ Friday night clash with Cheltenham at Rodney Parade because he is serving a one-game suspension after being sent off for accruing two yellow cards at Stevenage last weekend.

Meanwhile, County fans will have to wait until Wednesday, June 17 to find out their fixtures for the 2015/16 season, with that date confirmed by the Football League.
