ACCRINGTON Stanley are investigating an “alleged racist incident” following Friday night’s defeat to Newport County AFC.
The incident is believed to have involved a member of the public making a remark towards County striker Aaron O’Connor after the final whistle.
O’Connor scored the first goal as the Exiles won 2-0 at the Crown Ground to move up to sixth in League Two.
He then spoke to Stanley officials before boarding the team bus back to Newport.
A club statement reads: “Accrington Stanley can confirm the club has received a complaint about an alleged racist incident after the Skybet League Two Match against Newport County on Friday evening.
“All evidence is being passed on to the police in order for them to investigate further.
“The club has a zero-tolerance policy on racism and will always ban anyone found guilty of such behaviour from our stadium.
“Accrington Stanley would like to thank Newport County for their continued support in this matter.”
An Exiles spokesman added: “Newport County are working closely with Accrington Stanley and the relevant authorities involved in investigating the alleged incident, and thank Accrington for their support.”
