NEWPORT County boss Jimmy Dack is remaining tight-lipped on his future, but has paid a glowing tribute to the amber army who have supported him.

The former assistant boss to Justin Edinburgh has spent close to four years at County and has been manager since Edinburgh left for Gillingham.

Dack has yet to publically announce whether or not he intends to stay at Rodney Parade next season, though it is understood he won’t be joining Edinburgh at the Priestfield Stadium regardless of his decision.

Dack, who leads County to Bootham Crescent today with a place in the League Two play-offs still a mathematical possibility, believes whatever happens this term, his relationship with the Newport faithful will remain unblemished, despite Edinburgh’s departure.

“The fans have supported me tremendously, the feelings towards Justin, whatever they are, I haven’t felt anything but support,” he said.

“From the bottom of my heart, they have been absolutely brilliant.

“They’ve supported me from the first day I walked into this club, I took over in a tough situation and I wasn’t hiding, I wanted to try and carry on the work we’d done.

“I think the fans appreciate what we’ve been trying to do and I can’t thank them enough for their support, I get choked up thinking about it.

“I’ve had four great seasons at this club and some of the things we’ve been through together, we wouldn’t have imagined. We’ve had some unbelievably good times.”

Dack believes he’s been part of a special period in County’s history.

“I’ll never forget the experience of going to Wembley twice, but especially getting promoted there,” he said.

“Seeing grown men crying, women and children too, that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

“I am so grateful to all the fans, even though we’ve been in a bad time in the last few weeks, maybe lacking that little bit of extra quality we need. But our supporters have been great.

“They are good, honest people.

“They only get on the back of players if they feel they aren’t giving their all and earlier this season, with one or two players, that was happening and I make them (the fans) right.

“I’ve been at this place when we’ve lost and been clapped off, that tells you everything you need to know about them.

“I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”

Dack is hopeful of being able to recall injured duo Lee Minshull and Darren Jones for the trip to Yorkshire, but will be without Andrew Hughes, Robbie Willmott, Ismail Yakubu and Max Porter, the quartet ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.
