THE League Two season may be over but there is plenty of football action at Rodney Parade this weekend.

Following tonight’s Pro12 rugby encounter between Newport Gwent Dragons and Edinburgh, tomorrow sees the ground host the Junior Premier League football cup finals day from 10.30am.

And Newport County AFC Academy under-14s, coached by Exiles star Lee Minshull alongside John Nash and Steve Johnson, go for glory on home turf as they take on Aylestone Park from Leicester at 12.30pm.

Admission is free for children and just £2 for and the schedule is: U13s – 10.30am Coventry City v WBA Gloucester; U14s – 12.30pm Newport County v Aylestone Park; U15s – 2.30pm South Gloucester v Aylestone Park; U16s – 4.30pm Oxford City v Sandhurst Town.

And on Sunday Rodney Parade hosts the Newport County AFC Champions Cup – a youth tournament for under-7s to under-11s.

Declan Flanagan and the County in the Community team have organised the event, which gives kids taking part the chance to play on the same pitch as the County first team.

The lucky youngsters will also get to meet members of the squad that finished ninth in League Two as well as enjoying a tour of the ground and receiving medals and trophies at the end of the day.

Entry requirements are four GCSEs or equivalent, at grade C or above (including maths and English).

Students will represent Newport County AFC in the Football League Trust Futsal League and receive coaching in the game that has helped hone the skills of world stars Ronaldo, Messi and Ronaldinho.

The County futsal team will play in the South Midlands Division and fixtures will take place at both the Birmingham and Swindon futsal arenas.

Sky TV cover the league on their Soccer AM show so there is also a good chance of being on TV.

County in the Community is running taster sessions at Llanwern High School Sports Hall every Tuesday night – for girls from 4pm to 5pm and for boys from 5pm to 6pm.
