FORMER Newport County striker Aaron O'Connor, the Exiles' top scorer in two of his three seasons with the club, has joined Conference rivals Forest Green Rovers.

O'Connor, 31, becomes the third former Newport player to join the New Lawn outfit, joining Darren Jones, who signed this summer and ex-skipper David Pipe, who joined in 2014.

O'Connor's time with Newport was blighted by injuries, but he still proved a consistent goalscorer before being released at the end of the campaign following the appointment of boss Terry Butcher.

Forest Green boss Ady Pennock said: "Aaron will add strength to the squad - I am delighted to get him on board."

The Exiles are hopeful of landing some new signings of their own next week, having completed the deal to make Alex Rodman their fourth summer signing on Tuesday.

However, movement has been delayed for a couple of days (on the transfer front at least) as manager Terry Butcher undertakes a gruelling charity cycle ride.

While much of Gwent and South Wales prepares for the Velothon, Butcher is part of a team raising money for prostate cancer by cycling from London to Amsterdam.

Butcher has joined several staff from Ipswich Town in making the 145-mile round trip from Leyton Orient's ground to the Amsterdam Arena, home of Ajax.

It’s a Football League initiative to raise money for Prostate Cancer with all clubs represented.

Meanwhile, County will be searching for another media manager after it was announced that Jamie Griffiths is leaving the club to head back to Hereford.

In a statement on their website, Hereford broke the news, announcing: "Hereford FC is delighted to announce that former Hereford United Media Officer, Jamie Griffiths, is to return to Edgar Street in a full time capacity.

"Jamie has been appointed Hereford FC’s PR and Administration Officer and will be starting work on Monday 22 June.

Speaking about this appointment, Hereford FC Chairman, Jon Hale, said:

"The Board of Directors are delighted to welcome Jamie Griffiths back to the club. His knowledge, passion and commitment will be a huge asset to Hereford FC as we embark on this exciting journey.

"Jamie provides us with an experienced PR Officer, whilst his organised and committed mind-set will provide key office administration support to keep the whole operation razor sharp.

"I have known Jamie personally for many years, and have absolute trust in him to deliver on everything he does for this football club. My fellow Directors share that faith."

Griffiths commented: "I am delighted to be returning to Edgar Street in time for the new season and am really looking forward to being part of what is a very exciting chapter in the clubs history.

"I have been keeping a very close eye on the rebuilding process undertaken by Jon Hale and his hardworking team. I’d like to thank them for the opportunity they have given me to come back, it is a dream come true, and one that I never imagined would happen so quickly. I hope I can be a valuable addition to their team.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my brief time at Newport County and would like to thank everyone there for their understanding – especially to their club secretary Lewis Richards and James Watts who put in an incredible amount of hard work behind the scenes.

"I’d also like to wish Terry Butcher and everyone else at the club all the very best for the future.

"I now look forward to my new role at Hereford FC, which I am sure will be wide and varied, and full of the highs and lows that are part and parcel of being a Bulls fan!"
