FAN favourite Mike Flynn will stay with Newport County AFC for the rest of the season as a first team coach, writes Michael Pearlman.

Manager John Sheridan has confirmed the news, while expressing his delight at the signing of new assistant boss Warren Feeney.

The Exiles manager also had good news for County fans on the injury front.

“Warren has just finished his pro-licence, I worked with him at Plymouth, he’s very knowledgeable about the game, knows the game and hopefully my experience can rub off on him, he wants to get management experience. I’m looking forward to working with him,” he said.

“I’m really pleased to have him here.”

On the situation with Flynn, Sheridan explained: “Byron and Mike helped me out this week and I appreciate it, they have knowledge of the club that has helped me.

“Byron will go back to his job in the academy and Flynny will remain with us. So Warren comes in and Byron goes back to doing what he was doing, that’s where we are at.”

“I am delighted to be back, the Club is in my heart and I am grateful to John for giving me this opportunity," said Flynn.

“Working alongside an experienced manager, I’m sure I can learn a great deal as a coach, whilst helping the Club pick up results and climb the table.”

Ryan Mackerness also returns as part-time goalkeeping coach to work with Joe Day and Rhys Taylor.

Sheridan has almost a fully fit squad for Saturday’s game.

The only absentees are Andrew Hughes and Nathan Ralph. Defender Hughes is scheduled for a final consultation tomorrow on his cruciate knee ligament injury and is braced for a return to match action. Ralph is also closing in on a return, having resumed ball work in training.
