WINGER Alex Rodman says Newport County AFC fans have not seen the best of him after a frustrating start to his time at the club, writes Andrew Penman.

The 28-year-old, signed from Gateshead by former manager Terry Butcher in the summer, has started only five games this season due to persistent injury problems.

But, after playing every minute of the last two matches and scoring his first goal in Tuesday’s FA Cup replay win over Brackley Town, Rodman is hoping he can start to show the fans what they’ve been missing.

“I’ve had a few injuries and it’s been very stop-start for me, which has been very disappointing,” he said.

“It was nice to get two 90 minutes back-to-back and I’m feeling a bit leggy now but I’m pleased to get the goal and get into the next round.

“It has been massively frustrating for me,” he added.

“I started the first game, got injured in the second game, came back and got injured again and was out for three weeks, then I came back and was injured again.

“I haven’t really experienced anything like that before and it was mentally tough.

“When you come to a new club you just want to get going as quickly as possible and I haven’t been able to do that.

“I just want to get back fit and get near to what I know I can do.

“Obviously I’m naturally a winger but I’m playing more centrally at the moment, which I’m enjoying and I think the manager likes my legs in the middle.”

County turn their attention back to League Two with fellow strugglers Yeovil Town coming to Rodney Parade but Rodman says the win in the cup has got the players dreaming of a third round tie against a Premier League giant.

“We go to Barnet now full of belief that we can get a result there and get into the hat with the big boys,” he said.

“And you never know what can happen there and the money that could generate for the club would be massive what with everything that has gone on.”
