WALES under-21 international Tommy O’Sullivan believes his two loan spells at Newport County AFC have made him a better player.

The Cardiff City midfielder says the experience of getting regular game time in League Two will benefit him as he looks to break into the Bluebirds side next season.

But O’Sullivan admits there has not been much contact with the Cardiff management and he knows he may have to again look elsewhere for first team opportunities.

“I felt at the start of the year like I hadn’t really played enough games for my age but coming here I think I’ve played nearly 20 games now,” said the 21-year-old from Mountain Ash.

“And having that experience of first team football is going to benefit me.

“I’ve spoken to the boys at Cardiff but I haven’t heard much from the staff.

“I think they’re keeping a close eye on the results and how I’m doing. The reports go back and I’ll speak to them at the end of the season and we’ll see what happens next year.

“My main aim is to play for Cardiff City – that’s where I want to be.

“But it depends what happens. I just want to be playing football really, whether it’s at Cardiff or if I have to go somewhere else or go on loan again.”

O’Sullivan first moved to Rodney Parade in October but returned to Cardiff in January when then-manager John Sheridan opted not to extend the loan for a second time.

He was re-signed by new boss Warren Feeney last month.

“I enjoyed it when I first came – I was playing football every week and that is the best thing to be doing,” he said.

“I loved it and I don’t really know why I went back [to Cardiff].

“I don’t know what happened. It just didn’t materialise at that time but a couple of weeks later it did so I was just pleased it happened in the end.

“I know I wanted to come back [to Newport] as soon as I went back to Cardiff.

“We got there in the end and I’m enjoying my time here now and I want to play as much as I can before the end of the season.”
