WOLVERHAMPTON Wanderers boss Kenny Jackett says former Newport County AFC teen Aaron Collins is set to be handed an opportunity at Molineux.

Collins moved to the Championship club from Rodney Parade in the January transfer window, and he is yet to make his debut for the Midlands side.

The 18-year-old has been utilised in Wolves’ development team throughout his time at the club so far, but he was included on Jackett’s substitutes’ bench for their last match.

Although Collins did not make it on to the pitch during the 0-0 draw with Rotherham United last weekend, Jackett has hinted that his chance will come in the future.

“He’s not physically as strong as he’s going to be but it’ll be interesting how he, another young player, at the right time will get an opportunity,” Jackett told the Wolverhampton Express and Star.

“I would probably suggest he needs to play as a pair, but he is a striker with a little bit of everything.

“He’s got a good general game; touch, pace, finishing, he’s quite good at everything but hasn’t got an ‘extreme’ in one.”

Wolves have been searching for a potent striker all season, and there is a hope that Collins can fill that void in the years to come.

The 18-year-old made 25 senior appearances for County prior to his move to Molineux, scoring three times.

His final goal for the Exiles was a crucial one as he netted the winner in a tense 1-0 victory at York City on January 16 – the first match of Warren Feeney’s reign as manager following the departure of John Sheridan to Oldham Athletic.

Wolves have two matches remaining this season - which come against Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday.

They are currently in 14th place in the Championship table, after collecting 54 points from 44 matches.

Jackett is also confident that former Cardiff City striker Joe Mason will come good after a slow start for his new club.

“Joe hits the target, he keeps the ball low, he generally with either foot hits it one-touch – they are the characteristics of a goalscorer,” said the boss.

“He does need a strong partner – you need to play 4-4-2 and he needs a strong partner.

“But overall I’m encouraged by the fact he gets chances.”
