NEWPORT County AFC have made a double signing in the shape of midfielder Jennison Myrie-Williams and keeper James Bittner.

Myrie-Williams, 28, began his career at Bristol City, where he progressed through the youth setup and made his first-team debut in May 2006.

He moved to Dundee United in 2009 and had a stint at St Johnstone before returning to the Football League with spells at Stevenage, Port Vale and Scunthorpe United.

Most recently, the midfielder, who has penned a one-year deal at Rodney Parade, was with League of Ireland Premier Division side Sligo Rovers.

“I’m really happy to get the deal signed,” he said. “I have been speaking to Warren over the past few weeks and he has sold the club to me.

Newport County AFC feels like a club that is going places and I want to be a part of it.

“Looking at the players that the club already signed, it is a very exciting time for the club and I’m looking forward to playing in a competitive squad.”

Manager Feeney added: “Jennison is a strong lad and is a player that will lift the crowd during games and get people out of their seats.

“He possesses a lot of pace and likes to take on defenders and is constantly looking to put defenders on the back foot.

“He is a player that was highly recommended to me and I spoke to Micky Adams about him, who told me that Jennison would be a real asset for us this season.

“He has a lot of experience of the Football League and he has the right mentality for what we are trying to do here.

“I've played against him on a couple of occasions and he is a very exciting player.”

Meanwhile, Bittner, who had a spell at County as cover for Lenny Pidgeley in 2013 but didn't play a game, comes in as a player and goalkeeping coach.

The 34-year-old spent the past two seasons at Plymouth Argyle, where he combined playing responsibilities with the role of keeper coach.

He has previously had spells with Bournemouth, Exeter, Torquay, Forest Green and Hereford.

Speaking after passing his medical at the club's training facilities, the shot stopper insisted that he is looking forward to working alongside Feeney.

“I have known Warren now for a few years and with the signings that he is bringing into the club it is a very exciting time for Newport County AFC,” he said.

“I have worked both roles at Plymouth for the past few seasons, which I enjoyed and I have gained a lot from working with various goalkeeping coaches throughout my career.

“I’m very much looking forward to getting started during the pre-season.”

Feeney added: “James is someone I know very well. He was the goalkeeping coach at Salisbury when I was there and he is still very much capable of playing games at this level.

“James knows this division extremely well and is a very good coach. I think it will be brilliant for the goalkeepers here to have exposure to a goalkeeping coach on a daily basis.

“In the past, James has worked and played with some great goalkeepers, and that can only be a great benefit to us.”
