THIS week’s loan signings of Josh Sheehan and Jordan Green made it 16 new arrivals at Newport County AFC this summer but manager Warren Feeney is still on the lookout for players to further strengthen his squad.

County have suffered late heartbreak in their first two games of the new season at Rodney Parade – losing 3-2 in League Two to Mansfield Town and by the same score against MK Dons in Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie.

And Feeney says he will continue to monitor more potential loan signings right up to the close of the transfer window on August 31.

“I think you’re always looking, I think you have to,” said the Exiles boss.

“We’ve brought Josh in from Swansea and Jordan got a wee taste of action on Tuesday.

“I thought he did very well when he came on. He was a wee bright spark.

“But we’ll be on the phone constantly to make sure we get the right players in.”

Feeney confirmed that Green, who was working in a supermarket before joining AFC Bournemouth last summer, is the player he identified as ‘a fantastic signing’ last week before completing the deal on Monday.

Feeney, a former Bournemouth striker, is hoping to build a good relationship with the Premier League club.

The Cherries are managed by his one-time teammate Eddie Howe and Stephen Purches is in charge of their development teams.

Both played with Feeney at Dean Court in the early 2000s and Purches is also the Northern Irishman’s brother-in-law.

“Jordan is highly rated down there and I think there was a couple [of clubs] looking at him but my brother-in-law said that nobody actually went for him so we should take him,” explained Feeney.

“Hopefully we can get a relationship [with Bournemouth]. Eddie wants his players out playing and the kid – what a story from stacking shelves!

“You could see how happy he was making his debut. I think the kid has definitely got something.

“He’s the one I watched and you can see he’s comfortable on the ball and he’s got that little bit of a spark, which I think he showed the other night.

“He’s more of a winger than a striker but we put him up there and the enthusiasm is there so I think he’ll be a good addition for us.”
