NEWPORT County AFC defender Liam Angel has been named in the Wales under-19 squad alongside former Exiles star Regan Poole.

The under-19s play two friendly matches against Iceland at Dragon Park in Newport on Sunday, September 4 (kick-off 3pm), and Tuesday, September 6 (kick-off 3pm).

Angel was involved in several of County’s pre-season friendlies last month and made the bench for the first team last season.

But the former Cardiff City youngster has yet to make his senior debut for the Exiles after signing his first professional contract with the club in February.

Warren Feeney’s assistant, Andy Todd, has been impressed with what he has seen from Angel and has high hopes for the 17-year-old.

“He’s one that we’ve signed up young and we have a lot of faith in Liam to go on and have a decent career,” he said.

Poole, who left Rodney Parade in September 2015, is now a regular for Manchester United under-21s.

Wales under-17s will also play two friendlies against Hungary at Newport Stadium on Tuesday, August 23 (kick-off 3pm), and Thursday, August 25 (kick-off 11am).
