NEWPORT County AFC manager Warren Feeney could be facing a fine and a touchline ban for his reaction to Tuesday night’s defeat at Luton Town.

Feeney could not hide his anger after his side went down 2-1 at Kenilworth Road thanks to a hotly-disputed 97th-minute penalty.

The Exiles boss was incensed after referee Charles Breakspear pointed to the spot for the second time in the match having spotted an apparent foul by Jamie Turley on Hatters midfielder Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu.

Cameron McGeehan scored his second penalty of the contest after Jennison Myrie-Williams had levelled with a goal direct from a corner with 20 minutes left on the clock.

And Feeney, who received a £500 fine and a one-game touchline ban following a similar incident at Leyton Orient in February, was fuming after the match.

He said: “You’ve got to watch what you say with these guys but I don’t know if he’s fit to referee in football and that’s my honest opinion.

“Their player apparently has said to him ‘I dived’ and he can’t admit it but take it from that… “I think the first one was a foul but the last one was an absolute total disgraceful decision.”

Feeney was not happy with Mpanzu but says the blame has to lie with the official.

“He [Mpanzu] has fooled the whole stadium and unfortunately it’s going to be the big talking point,” he said.

“Our boys are an honest bunch and for me a penalty has got to be a penalty if there’s contact but to go down that easy they know they got out of jail – you could tell by the celebrations at the end.

“The referee had given them that. He’s been fooled and he’s taken the bait and given an absolutely dreadful decision in the 95th minute of a good game.

“It was a good contest and he’s just ruined it.”

He added: “I thought our boys were absolutely outstanding, exceptional and to get done by an absolute joke of a decision is heart-breaking but we’ll pick them up and go again.

“We stood toe to toe with them and I’m just disappointed because we didn’t deserve that but the good thing is that we’ve got to play them again.”
