GRAHAM Westley wants his Newport County AFC side to dominate at Blackpool today and come home with the three points – just like they did at Notts County and Accrington Stanley.

County head to Bloomfield Road targeting a third straight win on the road in League Two – something they’ve not achieved since returning to the Football League in 2013.

And, despite Tuesday’s late loss at home to Wycombe Wanderers, the 3-0 demolition job at Meadow Lane last week and the equally impressive 3-1 win at Accrington on October 29 means the Exiles travel north again brimming with confidence.

But they won’t have an easy task today as League Two leaders Plymouth Argyle are the only side to have won at Blackpool so far this season.

Gary Bowyer’s side lost at Mansfield Town in midweek but they are formidable opponents at home where they have drawn with second-placed Carlisle United and beaten third-placed Doncaster Rovers and fourth-placed Portsmouth.

Westley is not intimidated by such records, however, and he’ll tell his players to impose themselves and take control of the match this afternoon.

“Home and away we like to be a difficult side to play against,” said the Exiles boss.

“We like to control the ball, make sure we own the majority of possession and have the majority of the chances.

“And if we can own the ball for the largest period of the game and create more chances than the opposition then normally we’ll win the points on offer.

“We’ll prepare ourselves to make sure we’re in a position to do those things – own the ball, have the chances, win the football match.”

Westley is hoping that the Bloomfield Road pitch is more conducive to good football than the Rodney Parade surface was on Tuesday.

But he believes his side were unlucky to lose their seven-match unbeaten run.

“On the whole we played OK the other night,” he said.

“We played quite intelligently and carved out 12 chances.

“I’d have liked it to have been more but we had some good chances and on a different night we win the game 2-0 or 3-0.

“There’s things in our performance that can be better and we need to learn to do those things better.

“Our home ground always has to be an advantage to us. We understand the pitch, we know the pitch and how to play it so that has to be an advantage.

“When you’re playing away from home it’s a different style of game.

“You have to think about the game you play away in a slightly different way and we’ve got to get used to that.

“We’ve got to get used to the fact that wherever we go we’ve got to get a game together for their surface.”

New signing Abdoulaye Meite is set to start in central defence in place of captain Scot Bennett, who is suspended for one match having picked up five yellow cards.
