NEWPORT County AFC could be without both Darren Jones and Scot Bennett when they head to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Jones will definitely miss the FA Cup second round clash at Home Park after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 4-1 defeat at Blackpool.

And his central defensive partner Bennett, who missed that match due to his own one-match ban, is injured and will struggle to be fit for the weekend.

Fellow defenders Jamie Turley and Kyle Cameron are also currently sidelined, while Jazzi Barnum-Bobb was forced off at Bloomfield Road and Paul Bignot will be serving the final match of his six-game ban for biting.

“Bennett was suspended and injured so he wouldn’t have played [at Blackpool] if he wasn’t suspended,” said Westley.

“We could easily be without both of them next week. Bennett is not in good nick and the chances of him missing the game must be high.”

Westley is optimistic that Barnum-Bobb will recover in time for the cup clash.

“I don’t think it’s serious,” said the Exiles boss. “It was a knock on a knock.

“He was struggling with it all week and took a big bang on it again.

“I think it’s probably just a case of ice and rest and a little bit less training and we’ll hopefully get him ready for next weekend.

“If he doesn’t take a knock in training it is an impact injury and not a ligament injury and obviously that’s going to settle down much quicker.”

New signing Abdoulaye Meite is likely to be involved at Plymouth despite a rusty performance as a substitute at Blackpool.

“We need to push him along like we need to push [Jack] Jebb and [Josh] O’Hanlon along,” said Westley.

“You’re limited to bringing players in who haven’t been playing football because of this ludicrous transfer window scenario.

“For clubs at our level it’s just crazy but we are where we are and we’re limited to bringing in lads who have been on the sidelines.

“And you bring them in and try to get them fit and doing a job for you.

“Those three boys have now joined and it’s up to us to use the next week to get them much more ready to start games and win games.”

Asked if there would be any more new signings, he said: “No. I don’t think that’s realistic. We’ve got a lot of players at the football club and we need to slim our resources down.

“There’s too many players on the training ground; it’s very difficult to have so many players around.

“But we need players that can win games at this level around – that’s the key.

“We need to make sure that the boys who are at the club are ones that we can expect to go on the field and win games.”
