NEWPORT County AFC manager Graham Westley says there will be no more new arrivals before January – despite Jon Parkin’s loan move to York City this week.

Parkin’s departure, which is likely to become permanent in the New Year, means there are more funds available for Westley to reinforce his squad.

The Exiles boss has already brought in free agents Jack Jebb, Josh O’Hanlon and Abdoulaye Meite since his arrival in October.

But he says he’ll now wait until the transfer window reopens in January before looking to bring in more new recruits.

“At the moment there is a small number of players who are out of contract and are available,” said Westley.

“Most of them are not in the best physical condition because they’ve not been at clubs, they’ve not been in full-time training and they’re not ready to make a difference.

“I was prepared three or four weeks ago to go Jebb, O’Hanlon in you come because they were in that number of out of contract players with a bit of potential.

“And we’ve been able to get them up to speed and almost get them ready to where they can play some sort of serious starting role.

“Getting lads now I think is going to be very difficult,” he added.

“By the time they’re ready there’s going to be a much bigger marketplace to look at and you want to have a freer choice so I don’t think I’m going to be spending money now that I could spend when the market’s bigger and probably when I’m going to get more value.

“When the market opens in January there’s going to be value to be had and we need to be ready to sharpen ourselves up and add a bit of improvement to ourselves in key areas.”
