PLYMOUTH Argyle chief executive Martyn Starnes says Newport County AFC manager Graham Westley should apologise to Pilgrims boss Derek Adams following Saturday’s events at Home Park.

Adams cut short his press conference following the 0-0 draw between the sides in the FA Cup second round when Westley entered the media room while he was speaking.

Westley was asked to leave but before he did Adams stormed out, slamming a door behind him.

Responding to a question about the incident on The Plymouth Herald's #ArgyleChat podcast, Starnes said: “Obviously I wasn’t there at the time but I have heard about what happened and I think that Graham Westley was bang out of order.

“I think if you’re politely asked to leave a media room to allow the home manager to give an interview then you should do so and pay some respect.

“Graham has a track record of being confrontational and rude and I think that was really rude on Saturday to do that.

“And if he’s got any respect at all for his fellow managers he should apologise.”

But Westley insists he has done nothing wrong, explaining on Saturday: “The press officer asked me to leave. So I left. That was it.

"I was asked to come and have a chat with the press. I was asked to come and speak to the press so I walked into the press room, the other manager was speaking.

"He is welcome to come and listen to me, I have got nothing to say that I am scared of him hearing. I stood on the side of the room politely.

"The press officer asked me to leave, I was a bit confused and bemused by it but I then left the room, he stormed out, his choice."

The sides meet again in the second round replay at Rodney Parade on December 13 with the winners earning a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool in round three.
