NEWPORT County AFC loan star Rhys Healey has revealed that Plymouth Argyle contacted him about a move to Home Park just days before the sides met in the FA Cup last Saturday.

The Argus understands that a Plymouth representative called the striker last week to enquire about a potential loan move in the New Year.

Healey’s current loan spell from Cardiff City ends in January and his record of six goals in 18 appearances has caught the eye of their League Two rivals.

Exiles boss Graham Westley upset Plymouth manager Derek Adams by listening in on his post-match press conference last week.

And the approach from the Pilgrims for Healey is bound to increase the tension between the two clubs ahead of their cup replay at Rodney Parade on December 21.

The Argus has contacted Plymouth and is awaiting a response.

Healey, who turned 22 on Tuesday, has not scored in his last two games but he says the situation has not affected his form.

“I’ve obviously heard that there is interest there but it’s not for me to be dealing with that,” said Healey.

“I can’t really comment on it more than that because I’ve left someone else to deal with it.

“I’m not surprised because if any striker is scoring then they’re going to get interest.

“But it’s not down to the player to be dealing with it; it’s down to someone else to deal with it for them.

“All I want to do is just concentrate on scoring goals for Newport and playing well each week.

“It is distracting and it’s new to me as well,” he added. “Everything is a bit up in the air but I’m just concentrating on playing.

“Scoring goals is what I want to do and that’s what I’m concentrating on.”

Asked about the call before the FA Cup tie against Plymouth, Healey said: “It’s not awkward. I was only concentrating on getting out there and playing and scoring.

“I don’t concentrate on anything else other than bettering myself and helping the team out.

“I don’t think it’s affected my form. Once I step over that line on the pitch everything goes away outside of football.

“That’s my stage to show people what I can do and nothing distracts me from playing.

“My form has been as good as it can be,” he added. “Every game I play for Newport I’ve been playing well.

“I’ve been getting the chances to score and I probably should have scored more but each game I’m getting better.

“And my form is going to keep getting better if I’m playing every week.

“I’m just concentrating on scoring and if I score goals we get the points.

“To win games you’ve got to score goals so that’s my aim.

“I’m not thinking about anything else at the minute. I’m just young and enjoying my football.

“I just let other people deal with it outside of football and I just come in each day to train and enjoy myself with the lads.

“It’s obviously good that other people are interested but players that are in form are going to get that.

“But I’m not letting that distract me. I just want to play and enjoy myself.”

Healey’s future beyond January is in the hands of Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock – a former Plymouth manager.

Asked if he would be happy to stay at Newport, Healey said: “I’m not going to comment on that. Like I said I’m just focused on Saturday’s game. I’m not focused on anything else.

“I’ll just wait until January and play games and when the day comes that’s when we’ll speak about it.

“Until then I’m focusing on Saturday.”

County host Morecambe on Saturday in League Two. Westley’s men then travel to Crawley Town on December 17 before welcoming Plymouth to Rodney Parade on December 21.

The replay will be screened live on BT Sport with the winners earning a third-round tie against Premier League giants Liverpool at Anfield.
