NEWPORT County AFC have quashed reports that boss Graham Westley has been given two games to save his job.

Last Saturday’s crushing 4-0 defeat to Leyton Orient piled even more pressure on Westley, whose team are 11 points from safety at the bottom of League Two.

County have won just six of 29 games under Westley since he replaced Warren Feeney in the Rodney Parade hotseat in October.

It was reported yesterday that the Exiles’ board of directors had met to discuss Westley’s future and then given the former Stevenage and Preston chief two matches to keep his role.

However, in a statement released today, the board have vehemently denied that this is the case.

“The board of Newport County AFC wish to make it clear that the manager Graham Westley has not been set any deadline to “save his job”, as reported in various media outlets,” said the board.

“The board can confirm that it has discussed the disappointing result against Leyton Orient and its potential consequences.

“A further meeting was already scheduled for later this week and the issue will be further considered then.”

County have 12 games left to save themselves from a return to non-league football, four years after they won promotion to League Two.

They go to 19th-placed Crewe Alexandra on Saturday to face a side who are seven points above the danger zone.
