NEWPORT County AFC have confirmed that utility player Jennison Myrie-Williams has left the club following the end of his contract.

The 29-year-old was signed as a wide attacker by Warren Feeney last summer but enjoyed his longest run in the team as a left-back or left wing-back under Graham Westley.

He only featured as a substitute during Michael Flynn’s 12 matches in charge.

Myrie-Williams made 30 appearances in total and scored two goals – direct from a corner in the League Two defeat at Luton Town and a spectacular long range consolation against Swansea City under-21s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The Argus understands that Myrie-Williams rejected County’s initial offer of a new contract and the club was unwilling to meet his wage demands.

His one-year deal officially ended on Friday and he is now a free agent.

A brief statement from the club reads: "Jennison Myrie-Williams will not be extending his stay at Newport County AFC.

"After discussions between the player and the club, both parties were unable to reach an agreement.

"We wish Jennison all the best in his future career and thank him for all his efforts whilst at the club."

Michael Flynn’s squad returned to pre-season training last Thursday and a number of trialists are in attendance this week.

The club’s first friendly is at Undy AFC on Friday, July 14 (kick-off 7pm).

Meanwhile, work to repair the drainage system and install a new hybrid pitch at Rodney Parade is due to start tomorrow.
