JUSTIN Edinburgh is ready to help out his former club with loan deals if Newport County AFC manager Michael Flynn comes calling.

Flynn is in the market for more loan signings after landing striker Shawn McCoulsky from Bristol City last week.

And Edinburgh, whose Northampton Town side beat the Exiles 2-1 in Saturday’s pre-season friendly, says he will be happy to help out if he can.

“We’ve got one or two here that, once the season’s under way and before the window closes, will be available and we’ll always be willing to help,” said the former County manager.

“The club gave me an opportunity when I needed it and if I can help my former club in any way I will do.”

Cobblers striker Joe Iaciofano and goalkeeper James Goff are the most likely to go out on loan in the next few weeks.

But fellow teenager Shaun McWilliams is going to be kept at Sixfields and will fight it out for a first team start.

Iaciofano and Goff were both awarded professional contracts at the end of last season, and have been fully involved in Town’s pre-season programme.

But both were unused substitutes against Flynn’s men on Saturday and first-team opportunities are likely to be limited so the pair will be loaned out to get game time.

That won’t be a new experience to either of them, as Goff was loaned to local Northampton side Sileby Rangers last season and Iaciofano spent a spell with Corby Town.

“I think Shaun McWilliams will certainly be pushing for the first team squad and will be a part of it,” said Edinburgh after the match.

“I think the other two young boys will stay around for the first few weeks of the season but then we’ll look to probably put those both out on loan.

“We have to mindful of their progression and the only way, for me, that they’ll learn is by going out and playing in a first-team environment and that’s what we’ll look to do.”
