NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn is still hoping to add one or two new faces to his squad and there could even be another addition before Saturday’s season-opener at Stevenage.

County get their League Two campaign under way at the Lamex Stadium with six new signings in contention to start.

But Flynn hopes to add to the acquisitions of David Pipe, Robbie Willmott, Frank Nouble, Lamar Reynolds, Shawn McCoulsky and Ben White before the transfer window closes on August 31.

“We’re as ready as we can be,” said Flynn ahead of Saturday’s big kick-off.

“I would have liked a couple more [new] faces in but I’m happy with the squad at this moment in time.

“We’ve still got a bit of space and the loan market, which we can dip into.

“Premier League clubs might be looking to loan out a few more players towards the end of August.

“It’s something I don’t want to rush into but I think we need one or two more just to top the squad off.

“I’d like a couple more but that’s in an ideal world,” he added.

“I’ve missed out on a few targets but we’re Newport County and we’ve got to realise that.

“I realise that and, like I’ve said before, I’ll never put the club in any financial trouble.

“I’ll always stick to the budget. We know what it is and we get on with it.

“I believe I can do a job with the budget, the players, staff and facilities we’ve got and hopefully you’ll see that very shortly.”

Asked if there could be more new arrivals before Saturday, the Exiles boss said: “I’m hoping there might be one more in [before Saturday] but maybe we’ll see some more next week because they’re not going to be ready with international clearance.

“I’ve got what I’ve got at the moment and I’m quite happy with that.”

Ex-Cambridge United striker Ben Williamson, who had a trial with County during pre-season, has joined former Exiles front man Chris Zebroski at National League Eastleigh.
