NEW striker Shawn McCoulsky is determined to show the Newport County AFC fans what he can do at Stevenage tomorrow, writes Ryan Robinson.

McCoulsky, aged 20, has joined the Exiles on loan until January having made his debut for parent-club Bristol City back in October 2016.

Speaking to the media for the first time, McCoulsky says he can’t wait to get going in South Wales.

“It’s been really good so far,” he said.

“It was a very warm welcome from the boys, training has been good and I feel like I am settled into the team now.”

McCoulsky comes to the club with great pedigree, having scored a combined 31 goals for Bristol City under-23s, Weston Super-Mare and Bath City last season.

And McCoulsky wants to continue his goal-scoring run in Newport.

He said: “Last season I went on loan to Bath City, Weston-Super Mare and Torquay so I learnt a lot from those experiences and scored some goals.

“I’ve also had a background in men’s football at Dulwich Hamlet so it’s not something I’m daunted by.

“I definitely feel that I can make a positive impact on League Two. I’m very confident in my ability and I’m raring to go and hopefully contribute positively for the team.

“It’s really important for me to show the fans what I am capable of during my time here.”

McCoulsky admitted that other clubs were interested in him, but says the opportunity to learn from Exiles boss Michael Flynn was too good to turn down.

He added: “When I spoke with the manager he told me this was the best club for me to get my goals.

“I actually played against Newport last season at youth level just a day after making my professional debut at Bristol City.

“I spoke with the manager then and I just felt this was the best club for me.

“I did have interest from other clubs but the way Newport play made me feel like this was the best team to come to in order to improve, develop and play in the Football League.”

Asked on what he can specifically bring to the team, McCoulsky said: “Definitely pace, power and hopefully some goals. Most importantly it is to help the team with whatever I can do.”

The striker also wants to learn from the front-men already at the club.

He added: “There are lot of experienced players in the team, like Frank Nouble, so I’m looking to learn from the lads and bring what I can to the team.

“The mood in the camp is very comfortable, everybody is looking forward to the new season and we are targeting finishing way higher than last season.”
