MICHAEL Flynn is hoping to add more reinforcements to his Newport County AFC squad before Saturday’s League Two trip to Crewe Alexandra.

County followed up their 3-3 opening day draw at Stevenage with a superb 2-0 win at League One Southend United in the Carabao Cup last night.

Loan star Shawn McCoulsky scored both goals at Roots Hall in an impressive display but Flynn still wants to add to his options in midfield and attack.

Asked if there would be signings before Saturday, he said: “I hope so. We’ll probably find out on Wednesday or Thursday.

“It depends how much the board can raise for me. I’m hoping we get a big draw now [in the Carabao Cup second round] so we’ve got some more money coming into the club.

“I’ve been asked who I want and it’s whoever makes the most money for the club because that’s what these nights are for really for small clubs.”

Flynn made four changes to the side for the League Cup first round tie but insisted he will try to win every game.

“I love football and I’ll respect every competition we’re in,” he said.

“Sometimes players will need a break and sometimes others need a game to get their sharpness up.

“I’ll always do what’s best for Newport County.”
