NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn was a happy man as his team returned to winning ways by brushing aside Yeovil Town at Rodney Parade.

Headers from Padraig Amond on 44 minutes and Joss Labadie on 55 minutes – both from Matty Dolan corners – sealed a 2-0 win but County dominated throughout and the final scoreline flattered the visitors.

“I thought the boys were outstanding,” said Flynn.

“They moved the ball well, they defended well, they played some really good football and the only disappointment was that we didn’t score more goals.

“Fair play to the players, after a disappointing result last week they’ve come back and again showed what they’re about. They were first class.”

There was some tension in the air as County failed to make the most of their chances in the first half but once Amond netted his fourth goal of the season there was only going to be one winner.

Flynn added: “With the amount of chances we had, you want that first goal because you start thinking ‘is it going to be our day?’

“But thankfully we managed to get the goal. It was a good time to score. The tails were up coming in at half-time and they just carried it on in the second half.

“That’s only the second game under me that we’ve won by more than one goal and I thought it was a very professional performance.”

Flynn was pleased with the performance of Dolan, who was recalled after three matches on the bench.

“We do a lot of work on set-plays – defending them and where we can hurt the opposition,” said the Exiles boss.

“And we scored from two set-plays again.

“But the football we played was brilliant. Matty Dolan came back in against his old club and was outstanding, Ben Tozer was outstanding, Scot Bennett was outstanding.

“I’m naming a few but I could go through the whole team. They were first class.”

Mark O’Brien missed the match with a dead leg, while Robbie Willmott was ruled out with a knee problem but neither are expected to be out for long.
