MICHAEL Flynn is “buzzing” to have Matty Dolan back to his best after the midfielder created both goals as Newport County AFC cruised to a 2-0 home win over Yeovil Town on Saturday.

County dominated from start to finish against the Glovers and could have added more goals before and after Padraig Amond and Joss Labadie headed in Dolan corners either side of half-time.

Former Yeovil star Dolan pulled the strings for the Exiles on his return to the starting XI and was the standout player in a superb team display.

“I thought we were outstanding,” said Flynn. “They all worked as a team and they did exactly what we asked of them, bar taking a few more chances.

“I thought Dolan was brilliant and I only took him off because he had a kick on the ankle.

“His delivery from set-plays was unbelievable and if I was him I’d be fuming that I didn’t have three or four assists.”

After a frustrating September, which saw him on the bench for the last three matches, Flynn was delighted that Dolan showed the quality he possesses on Saturday.

“He had one-and-a-half bad games and you tell me a footballer in League Two or any footballer that doesn’t have a bad game,” said the boss.

“I took him out because he was tired and he had a few things going on off the pitch but he’s always been professional and I’m buzzing with him.

“He’s quality and that’s why I wanted him here.”

County were without defender Mark O’Brien and utility man Robbie Willmott but both could return for the next league match at Forest Green Rovers.

“Mark had a dead leg on Friday,” explained Flynn. “He had a fitness test on Saturday and it wasn’t right but it gave someone else a chance. Benno [Scot Bennett] came in and I thought he was outstanding.

“Robbie was struggling all week with swelling on the knee.

“He’s had a scan and thankfully there’s nothing sinister so he should be back by next week.”

There will be changes for Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy clash with Swansea City under-21s at Rodney Parade (kick-off 7.30pm) but Flynn says he will field a “strong” team.

“It’s a tough one because whatever team I put out I always want to win so I’ll have a good long think about it,” he said.

“There’s a few players who are knocking on the door and a couple who have come back in who need another game.

“It’ll be a strong team and one that I hope the fans turn up for and we can put on a show for them.

“There’s prize money on offer as well so I’m sure the chairman and the directors will remind me of that.

“But, like I said, I want to win any football match and we want to keep this home run going and hopefully win again.”
