NEWPORT County AFC are ready to hand out a hammering to someone, according to manager Michael Flynn.

The Exiles boss has been frustrated by the number of chances his team has been missing in recent matches.

Last Saturday’s 2-0 home victory over Yeovil Town was only the second time that County had won by more than one goal in League Two since Flynn took charge in March.

The other was a 4-1 thumping of Chesterfield on August 26 and, ahead of today’s trip to struggling Forest Green Rovers, the manager believes his side are capable of recording another big win.

“I just think that we need to be a bit more ruthless in both boxes,” said Flynn.

“Some of the football we’ve played has been excellent.

“We can all feel that we are going to put a good few goals on a team and when it all comes together I think the fans will be very happy.

“It should have happened against Yeovil, it could have happened on Tuesday and there’s been other times as well.”

Flynn is not singling out any individuals for criticism, however.

“The pleasing thing is that the boys are doing the hard work to get into the positions to score and nobody misses a chance on purpose,” he said.

“It’s frustrating for us all because the players know when they’ve created good chances and they all want their names up in lights.

“They all want to be celebrating and have their names in the paper.

“It’s everyone and I’ll never blame any individual.

“A bit more ruthlessness and maybe a little bit more luck and we will score a hatful.”

Flynn’s men secured 2-1 victories over Crewe Alexandra and Notts County and 1-0 wins over Morecambe, Crawley Town, Exeter City, Yeovil Town and Accrington Stanley between March and May last season.

And this season, as well as the wins over Yeovil and Chesterfield, they have beaten Coventry City, Cheltenham Town and Grimsby Town 1-0 and Crawley 2-1.
