MICHAEL Flynn has promised that he won’t let himself get wound up by Steve Evans tomorrow.

The Mansfield Town manager has a reputation for rubbing people up the wrong way but Newport County AFC boss Flynn will stay focused on the job in hand at Rodney Parade.

“I won’t be taking any notice of what Steve Evans does,” said the Exiles boss.

“He’s experienced and he knows what he’s good at.

“He winds up opposition coaches, managers, players and, fair play, if that works for him then good luck.

“But I’m sure he’ll get as good as he gives against our bench and our players.

“I get wound up in games but I don’t think I’ve ever reacted stupidly to an opposition manager.

“It’s more likely to be one of our players that I have a go at!

“I’m more concerned with what he does with his football teams,” he added.

“He gets good results and he builds good teams. What he does on the side of the pitch is neither here nor there and I’m sure our fans behind the dugout will drown him out anyway.”

Mansfield are currently 12th in the table but they will provide stern opposition, according to Flynn.

“I think they signed a whole new squad, near enough,” he said.

“They’ve got an experienced manager and it’s going to be a tough game.

“They are a team of men and it’s going to be a really interesting game.

“They’ve got some really good players, we’ve got some really good players and it’s whoever takes their chances.

“We put our own pressure on ourselves,” he added. “I’m not interested in what Mansfield’s budget is or the pressure on them.

“I want to get the three points and keep us moving up the table.”

Paul Anderson (back spasm) and David Mirfin (hamstring) are both doubts for the visitors after Tuesday night's 1-1 draw at Barnet.

Joel Bryom and Zander Diamond are ruled out but winger Alfie Potter is fit again and in the squad.

Evans is full of praise for the job that Flynn has done since taking over in March and the atmosphere generated by the fans at Rodney Parade.

“It started at the end of last season when Graham Westley lost his job,” said the Stags boss.

“You don't want any manager to lose his job, but the resurgence in Newport after that was quite remarkable to stay in the League.

“You always knew then that they were going to go and have a bit of a go. They are good club with good supporters and they get backed by a board down there as and when they can.

“You break down their signings and they have signed some good players. They've signed another one this week as Paul Hayes has just joined them.

“They are playing a system that is difficult to compete against and the fans there get right behind them as they did last season when they looked like they might be going into non-League.

“They tell me it's a good pitch now,” he added. “Though I understand there is going to be some naughty weather on Saturday so it's going to have to handle a monsoon.”
