FRANK Nouble has had so many clubs he genuinely can’t recall his best run in the FA Cup – all the striker knows is he wants a place in this season’s third round with Newport County AFC.

The 26-year-old, who made the Exiles his 14th different club when signing this summer, thinks round three is the best he has managed in eight years as a pro.

He will have the chance to reach that stage of the competition again on Sunday when County welcome League Two rivals Cambridge United to Rodney

Parade (kick-off 2pm).

Nouble and his teammates go into the tie boosted by last Saturday’s brilliant win against Swindon Town, while Cambridge were also victors in their showdown with Stevenage.

As they prepare to meet this weekend, a fortnight before clashing in the league, just one point currently separates the two sides – County sit ninth and the U’s 13th – in the table.

Turning his focus to knockout football after Ben Tozer’s winner in Wiltshire, Nouble said of his previous FA Cup experiences: “Honestly, I can’t remember!

“I’ve been at so many clubs that I can’t remember any decent run. I’ve been to the third round a few times and I’ve started at the third round as well.

“That’s all in the past, all that matters now is Cambridge and we firmly have our sights on them.

“If we can get to the third round then obviously we want one of the big teams in the draw.

“But, for us, I think we just need to concentrate on what is in front of us.

“Cambridge will be a tough test but we’re quietly confident about it.”

Speaking to iFollow

Exiles, he added: “It’s a massive game – another game that we want to win, of course.

“We’re really looking forward to that game, it’s at home, and hopefully the fans will come in their numbers and see another positive performance.

“We haven’t played that well at home recently so hopefully we can change that around.”

It seems that County won’t be missing skipper Joss Labadie for Sunday’s game, despite the midfielder picking up a fifth booking at Swindon.

Because the yellow card came in his side’s 20th League Two fixture of the campaign it does not mean an automatic suspension – 19 matches was the cut-off point.

“If he’s not playing then we’re weakened,” said Nouble.

"He’s the heart of this team. He’s our captain for a reason, we miss him a lot when he’s not there, so of course we’re buzzing to have him back."

Labadie was among a clutch of Exiles to step up to the plate against the Robins, and Nouble felt it was a well-deserved three points on the road.

He said: “Every man put in a huge shift and I think we got the result we deserved.

“The fans were also brilliant, they came in their numbers what with it being a local game for them.

“We’re really happy to get something for all of them because we have been in a little blip over the last few games, so it feels really good.

“We want to win as much as anyone does so (Saturday) is something we’re going to hold very dear to our hearts and we’ve just got to try to continue our form now."

Meanwhile, the club’s supporters’ trust board have received six nominations for five vacancies and, as such, will hold a contested election.

The six candidates are Phil Ashcroft, Ryan Courtney, Colin Faulkner, Bob Herrin, Rob Santwris and Kevin Ward.

Trust members will soon be able to read each candidate’s election statement and view voting information and the election timetable.
