THE example set by Juventus stars Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini at Wembley on Wednesday is being used by Newport County AFC chief Michael Flynn ahead of his side’s trip to Huish Park tomorrow.

Flynn feels the Exiles have gifted opposing teams far too many goals by making individual errors, though he says their commitment to the cause cannot be faulted.

And from a defensive point of view, Flynn believes County’s players should study the way Juventus played during their Champions League defeat of Spurs in midweek.

“Buffon and Chiellini were grabbing each other because he made a block,” he said.

“The passion they showed to keep the ball out of that net, and this is Buffon, who has won everything, showing that kind of emotion the age he is.

“They (County’s players) need to watch that, and they will be watching that, because for me that shows what it takes to be a winner."

On his own side’s defending, he added: “I don’t think anybody has torn us to shreds and scored a goal they thoroughly deserved.

"It has all been somebody switching off, diving in, not picking up a man, all individual errors and we’ve got to cut them out.”

Meanwhile, Flynn reckons striker Paul Hayes (cramp), who scored the first hat-trick of his career against Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday, will be fit to face Yeovil Town tomorrow.

“I think Paul will be fine,” he said. “He’s experienced. He could have stayed out there, but that’s when you’re most at risk, when your fatigue levels are really high.

“He was sensible. He knows his own body and he probably prevented himself having an injury.

“That’s the sign of a good professional because it would have been easy to be the hero and stay out there.

“I’ve always said he’s going to be crucial for us in the run-in. He will be, it’s as simple as that."
